Fibre-reinforced concrete Part 3: Fibres from MC-Bauchemie for a wide range of fibre-reinforced concrete structures

Jul 16, 2025

MC-Bauchemie offers comprehensive solutions for fibre-reinforced concrete and shotcrete with a wide range of products made from polymer and steel fibres. While the MC-Fibre Poly product line consists of polymer fibres in various sizes and geometries, the Stabils product line stands for straight steel fibres made of highly tempered steel strip.

MC-Fibre Poly: Micro and Macro fibres for a wide range of applications

The MC-Fibre Poly Micro line comprises polypropylene-based micro fibres. They are certified to EN 14889-2 class Ia and are added to fresh concrete in low dosages, usually from 0.6 to 1.0 kg/m³. Their main area of application is crack control at an early stage, in particular to reduce shrinkage and to prevent early damage due to volume changes in the setting phase. In addition, microfibres can improve the homogeneity of the concrete, reduce the tendency to spalling under fire exposure and increase the impact strength of the concrete. MC-Fibre Poly Micro are not structurally load-bearing but have a stabilising effect in fresh and young concrete - and make an important contribution to durability and surface quality. They are mainly used in industrial floors, concrete roadways, shotcrete, exposed concrete surfaces and fire protection in tunnelling.

The MC-Fibre Poly Macro line comprises macrofibres based on polypropylene and polyolefins in straight, embossed and twisted form. They are certified to EN 14889-2 in class II and are added to the fresh concrete in dosages of approx. 2 to 6 kg/m³. As structurally effective fibres, they take on load-bearing functions in the concrete structure. Their main area of application lies in the substitution or supplementation of conventional reinforcement, particularly in components with requirements for residual load-bearing capacity, ductility and crack width control. MC-Fibre Poly Macro offers an economically and structurally optimised reinforcement solution - especially where homogenous, corrosion-free and permanently effective reinforcement is required. Typical applications include industrial floors, foundation slabs, precast elements, tubbings and shotcrete in tunnelling.

Stabils: Steel fibres for components subject to high static loads

The Stabils product line stands for straight steel fibres made from highly tempered steel strip. They are certified according to EN 14889-1 in Group II and are added to the concrete in doses of approx. 20 to 40 kg/m³. They are used exclusively for structural reinforcement, can transfer tensile forces across the crack in cracked concrete and thus enable above-average ductile fracture behaviour. Stabils can be used to produce steel fibre concrete of the highest performance classes. Even larger deformations of performance class L2 can be safely covered with Stabils fibres even at comparatively low dosages. Typical areas of application are load-bearing components in tunnelling, high-performance prefabricated parts, shotcrete, special components and structurally highly stressed components in civil engineering, in which conventional reinforcement can be completely or partially replaced. Stabils fibres can not only be used to easily convert a steel fibre concrete into a high-performance steel fibre concrete, but also to produce an above-average performing cement-free Earth Friendly Concrete (EFC).

By combining these fibres with the concrete admixtures and the concrete technology expertise of MC-Bauchemie, tailor-made solutions can be implemented for various construction projects, improving both the performance and sustainability of the concrete.
