MAIN FEATURE: Sealing is a must – MC at the side of building protection experts
Damp basements, leaky floors, walls and balconies are a nuisance for building owners and can even pose a health risk. For building protection experts, however, they are part of everyday life. They repair, protect and preserve buildings with expertise, sensitivity and the right product systems practical solutions, personal on-site consultation, in-depth training and fast delivery of high-quality products.
The profession of building protection specialist has been a recognised apprenticeship with a promising future for a few years now. Building protection specialist are specialised craftsmen. Their job is to identify damage to buildings and structures, repair it professionally and prevent future damage. They ensure that buildings remain safe, stable and habitable for the long term – and restore damaged properties to functional, healthy living spaces. Read more about this in our current issue of MC aktiv, starting on page 8.
BIG PICTURE: Manuel Gallardo Cycling Velodrome – Comprehensive renovation in record time
In Curicó, Chile, the 250-metre-long concrete cycling track at the Manuel Gallardo Velodrome underwent extensive renovation. The focus of the work was the complete renovation of the jointless concrete track with an area of over 2,800 m² and slopes of up to 40°. Due to surface temperatures of up to 50 °C during the day, all applications had to be performed at night, under a tight project schedule. The solution applied was the
MC-DUR
TopSpeed system, with its KineticBoost® technology enabling accelerated curing while ensuring high adhesion, abrasion resistance and fast application. It consisted of a primer and scratch coat as well as the final coating with
MC-DUR
TopSpeed and H-32 quartz sand to achieve a slip-resistant and durable surface. In addition,
Nafufill
F100 was used for structural surface repairs and MC-Injekt 1264 for crack sealing.
INNOVATION & INSPIRATION
In our current issue of MC aktiv, we are once again presenting new products and technologies. These include the transparent, single-component protective sealant MC-Floor Finish AC, which was specially developed for mineral substrates. We also present the new repair mortar
Nafufill
RM 10 rapid. This fast-curing mortar enables rapid repair of concrete and masonry surfaces and can be reworked after just 30 minutes, minimising downtime. Another highlight is the fast epoxy resin filler Konudur Robopox 20 fast. It was specially developed for the force-fit renovation of non-accessible sewers using robot technology and enables rapid processing without heat curing.
In the ‘Inspiration’ section, we demonstrate the strengths of the specialty resin
MC-DUR
TopSpeed in top-down construction in building construction. Its targeted use as a separating layer between the clean layer and the ceiling is an intelligent material solution that not only impresses in terms of construction technology but also contributes to a noticeable acceleration of construction progress.
BEST PRACTICE: Projects, projects, projects
In our ‘Best Practice’ section, we present a selection of current projects as usual. From the implementation of efficient injection technology at a subway station in Toronto, to the creation of vibrant landscapes at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve in Singapore with special mortars from MC to the use of tailor-made flooring systems at the Bochum public utility company, to reliable concrete technology from MC at a military hospital in Prešov and the construction of a rockfall gallery in Romania. In all projects, MC's expertise and product systems contributed to the success of the construction project.
Focus on SUSTAINABILITY: CO₂-reduced building materials
In our ‘Sustainability’ section, we report on research into sustainable building materials as part of the TOFFEE project run by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. MC-Bauchemie has been working intensively with partners from research and industry on the use of regional clay soils. The project is a prime example of successful cooperation between science and practice in the development of sustainable innovations in the construction industry.
