Owner Johannes Grewer interviewed by MC about MC-DUR TopSpeed

Oct 16, 2023

We visited the Grewer carpentry and roofing company in Bottrop-Kirchhellen, Germany. Here a usable area was coated with the MC-DUR TopSpeed fast-curing roller coating based on the KineticBoost-Technology® in the summer of 2021. Together with Johannes Grewer, owner of the roofing and carpentry company, we took another look at this area after almost two years of use and asked him about his experiences with MC-DUR TopSpeed.

What kind of surface had to be coated and how large was it?

A concrete substrate that was getting old had to be coated. The area in question was the production area, the so-called joinery line with an area of approx. 120 m².

What kind of work is carried out in this area?

The area is used to manufacture structural solid wood products that are used in timber engineering. Timber is tied here, i.e. preparatory measures are carried out such as scribing, cutting and further processing of the material.

What was the aim of the coating measure?

First and foremost, the floor, which was getting old, had to be treated to improve its cleanability, which was no longer given on the old concrete subfloor. At the same time, the floor had to have a certain roughness for reasons of occupational safety, and it also had to be trafficable with heavy equipment. This combination was the main challenge.

What are the requirements for the floor in this area?

Good cleanability, slip resistance, durability and robustness are the most important points for me.

What challenges had to be overcome during the repair?

The concrete surface was heavily worn over the years and partly resembled exposed aggregate concrete. At the same time, there were some minor breakouts. The aim was to create a level floor without places where sawdust and dirt could permanently collect.

At the time of repair, the joinery line was being removed at the same time and was only protected from the weather on one side. The coating work had to be completed as quickly as possible and the surface had to be walkable again so that the extension could be completed as soon as possible.

Were your expectations regarding the properties of the new floor coating with MC-DUR TopSpeed fulfilled? Are you still satisfied almost two years after completion?

My expectations were more than fulfilled. Even after almost two years of use, the floor looks like it did on the first day. There is neither damage nor signs of wear. Although oil gets on the coating during regular maintenance work, there is no discolouration. The enormous improvement in cleanability alone saves a lot of time.

Would you install MC-DUR TopSpeed again and recommend it to others?

Yes, I would choose TopSpeed again any time and can only recommend the floor coating. In fact, we are currently planning to coat another area with it. This time in the vehicle hall and the loading area.

Thank you very much for your time, Mr Grewer.
