Crack-bridging epoxy resin for wear-resistant surfaces

30 Apr 2026

MC-DUR 1321 flex is a new epoxy resin from MC-Bauchemie that can be used as a wear layer in surface protection systems in multi-storey and underground car parks. The system meets the high standards for surface protection systems (OS) set out in the German Technical Rule for Maintenance (TR-IH) and DIN EN 1504-2. A key feature of the system is its excellent static and dynamic crack-bridging properties.

Wear-resistant so-called OS 8 systems in accordance with TR-IH, which offer additional safety through crack bridging, are currently in particularly high demand. MC-DUR 1321 flex can be used to produce slip-resistant wear layers in the OS 8 system that provide static crack bridging (Class A3 according to DIN EN 1062-7; >0.7 mm at -10 °C) and dynamic crack bridging (Class B3.1 according to DIN EN 1062-7; 0.3 mm at -10 °C). Furthermore, the MC-DUR 1321 flex system impresses with its high wear resistance after 15,000 cycles in the Parking Abrasion Test (PAT).“With MC-DUR 1321 flex, we offer a solution that combines high load-bearing capacity, safety and durability,” explains Christian Nöcker, Dipl.-Ing. and Product Manager at MC. “Whether in multi-storey car parks, ground-level slabs, intermediate decks or ramps, the new coating enables the creation of robust wear layers to ensure safe vehicle or pedestrian traffic.”

Application is simple and safe

The substrate is first primed with the MC-DUR 1320 VK system primer and sprinkled with quartz sand while still fresh. Between twelve and twenty-four hours after priming, apply MC-DUR 1321 flex using a notched or pin-tipped squeegee, then fully cover with quartz sand. The excess quartz sand is removed the following day and the surface is sealed with MC-DUR 1322 as a topcoat.
