Between August and November 2025, 870 m² of grandstand surfaces were comprehensively repaired and recoated on behalf of the municipality of Travnik. In addition, 250 m² of the sports hall floor underwent partial repair and levelling. It became apparent right at the start of the work that the condition of the existing concrete surfaces was significantly worse than initially assumed. Numerous areas of spalling, unevenness, cracks and damage complicated the substrate preparation and placed high demands on planning, execution and material selection. In addition to the horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces of the stands, the sports pitch also had to be repaired and levelled.
Substrate preparation as a crucial step
The quality of a coating depends on the substrate. For this reason, particular emphasis was placed on the careful repair and levelling of the concrete surfaces. Emcefix Floor was used to repair the horizontal and vertical grandstand areas. The repair mortar was ideally suited to filling in defects, spalling and unevenness and to creating a load-bearing base for the subsequent system installation.
MC-Floor Screed classic was used for the partial repair of 250 m² of the sports hall floor. This mineral-based system enabled precise levelling of the existing surfaces and ensured a level, load-bearing base. This created the conditions necessary for the subsequent coating layers to be applied safely.
Tailored coating system for high load-bearing capacity
Once the repair, grinding and preparatory work had been completed, the coating system was applied to the grandstand surfaces. MC-DUR 1177 WV-A was used as a primer with excellent penetration properties, followed by MC-DUR 1320 VK mixed with quartz sand of 0.1–0.3 mm grain size as a scratch coat. This combination of products resulted in a robust surface with good mechanical resistance and secure adhesion to the prepared substrate. The process was completed with MC-DUR TopSpeed. This innovative roller coating impressed with its rapid curing, high surface quality and attractive appearance. MC-DUR TopSpeed offers decisive advantages, particularly in refurbishment projects with tight deadlines, as the surfaces can be processed further quickly and returned to use sooner. At the same time, the roller coating ensures a durable, low-maintenance and visually high-quality surface.
A visible improvement for the client and users
The combination of professional substrate preparation, high-performance repair mortars and a tailored coating system led to an impressive result. The severely damaged concrete surfaces were transformed into a modern grandstand complex with durable, resilient and visually appealing surfaces.
Representatives of the municipality of Travnik were also impressed by the result during the handover. Given the originally poor condition of the concrete surfaces, many of those involved had not expected that the facility could be so comprehensively upgraded, both technically and visually, within such a short time.
