B+B Parkhaus operates over 54 car parks in 28 cities across Germany, including Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Leipzig. The company offers modern parking solutions with a total of over 18,000 parking spaces. Many of the car parks are equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles. At the B+B car park on Ahstraße in Gelsenkirchen, two areas of the floor required refurbishment: two parking spaces and the driving lane on parking deck 9, and one parking space and the driving lane on covered parking deck 8. Depressions on the open deck were eliminated to prevent water from standing on the surface in future and causing ice formation in winter. In the outdoor area, the joints between the precast concrete slabs also needed to be filled in.
The clients found the optimal solution in the form of an OS 10 surface protection system from MC. Before refurbishment work began, a test area with an improved slope and bandaging for particularly crack-prone areas was created. This test area was examined under adverse winter weather conditions, as the coating work on the two parking decks was scheduled for the end of the year. During this period, the car park is used less heavily, and closure times are less problematic. The MC-DUR TopSpeed Flex plus OS 10 surface protection system from MC is particularly suitable for application in difficult weather conditions. It has excellent crack-bridging properties and, thanks to KineticBoost Technology®, can be installed in the presence of moisture and within an extended temperature range of 2 °C to 35 °C. It cures much faster than conventional OS 10 coatings, becoming rainproof after just 30 minutes. The test area proved its worth over the winter. Its excellent colour stability, good cleanability, durability and unique abrasion resistance also convinced us to begin the coating work.
First, the old concrete was ground down and the old joint tapes were removed from the parking areas (parking deck 9) and driving lanes (parking decks 8 and 9). The surfaces were then shot-blasted and vacuumed. The concrete surfaces were then primed with MC-DUR TopSpeed SC and lightly covered with quartz sand. After two hours' drying time, a scratch coat of MC-DUR TopSpeed SC and quartz sand was applied, worked in and lightly broadcast with quartz sand. After a further two hours, MC-DUR TopSpeed flex plus was applied to the open deck, both in the area of the recessed joint as an additional crack bandage with embedded MC-Floor Tex fabric, and over the entire surface as a sealing layer. The following day, the broadcast layer was applied using MC-DUR TopSpeed in the colour RAL 7042 and was then broadcast with quartz sand. Finally, the surfaces were sealed with MC-DUR TopSpeed in the same colour. Additionally, the drainage channels of all decks were given a sealing coating of MC-DUR TopSpeed flex plus.
Following the positive results on the parking decks, the clients decided to coat the electric charging stations at the B+B car park in Düsseldorf with the MC-DUR TopSpeed OS 8 surface protection system. A decisive factor was the short refurbishment time, ensuring that the parking spaces would not be closed for too long. The result was so convincing that, until the end of 2026, the electric charging stations in 50 B+B car parks throughout Germany will be refurbished with coating systems from MC-Bauchemie.
