The Plitvice Lakes are among Croatia’s best-known natural attractions and are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by dense forests, numerous watercourses and an exceptional karst landscape, the region places high demands on construction projects. As part of the expansion of the Plitvice Holiday Resort, additional modern accommodation and leisure facilities are being built. These are intended to blend harmoniously into the surroundings while also meeting the highest standards of quality and durability.  The project was designed by the architectural firm Abstracto studio d.o.o. Construction supervision is being handled by Pro Support d.o.o. The investor and project owner is Rotokor d.o.o., while the construction work is being carried out by Vacon d.o.o. Construction began at the end of October 2025, with completion scheduled for mid-2027.

High demands on foundation waterproofing

The immediate proximity to bodies of water and the geological characteristics of the region make reliable protection of components in contact with the ground essential. Soil moisture and groundwater can impair the durability of structures over the long term and lead to costly repair measures. For this reason, waterproofing of the foundation structure played a central role as early as the planning phase. In addition to reliable watertightness, reliable installation and long-lasting protective performance were key criteria in the selection of the waterproofing system.
